The story of
'Orlando'

«The legendary Orlando has a story all of his own»

Born at Springston in the South Island to ‘Miltondale Ebony’ by Akanar, whose breeding dates back to New Zealands’ first imported Arabian Stallion ‘Silver Sparkle’.

Orlando was brought to the North Island as a 3 year old and soon after began his career as a show pony.

This was the beginning of a career that can only be described as incredible.

His showcasing career was to span two decades during which time he not only won hundreds of championships in the show ring but equally as many over jumps.

“Orlando” inspired not only those who competed on him, but those who competed against him and although now retired from competition is an integral part of Orlando Country.

In 1999 the Lourie family established an events venue at Orlando Country Estate, in the Rangitikei.

Having grown the Orlando Country brand and under the management of their children, they have expanded the operation to the Manawatu following the 2008 purchase and conversion of an old 42 acre ‘Town Supply’ dairy farm into the current ‘Orlando Country Club’ on the outskirts of Palmerston North City.

The flat property was completely re-developed incorporating a brand new Lake House building for events and hosting clients within extensive landscaping, with lakes a driving range and the region’s newest 9-hole executive golf course.

Orlando Country Club is now well established as one of the region’s major event venues, renowned for hosting many corporate events, team building days and conferences, along with private weddings and functions.
